Hi All,

All members are invited to enter the NTC 2012 Club Champs either for the fun of joining in and playing, or for serious competition and a chance at the Honours Board!

Tournament Director Raewyn Rumble and Club Captain Allister Irving will ensure that the weather will be kind!

We plan to make the most of it by kicking off with the Men’s Doubles on Sun 19th Feb (entries close 15 Feb) …

The schedule is as below and entries can be done via email to our Club Captain, Allister Irving at: a.irving@gmail.com

or inside the Club House directly onto the entry forms on the notice board.

We genuinely invite ALL current or new financial members to participate and as an added incentive we will be giving away 3 x $75 Mecca Vouchers to dine at our fine local restaurant which will be randomly drawn from all entries, so everyone has a chance to win one of these three great prizes.

Additionally to encourage more Men’s Singles players to join without fear of being matched up against one of the top guns in an early round, we have a new initiative of splitting the opening draws by restricting entry to S8 grade and lower and our elite Men players can start the tournament with S7 and above grade (of course S8’s can enter both tournaments if they wish). The winners of both draws will go through into the main finals and as usual we will have a “Plate Draw”. So lots of opportunity to enjoy some competitive tennis at the beginning.

So come and have some fun and join in … and if you are keen to watch some inspirational Chelsea Cup Tennis at Ngataringa then make a diary note to be at the Club House on Friday 2 March at 6pm to enjoy the North Shores top players at our home grounds.

We enjoyed a great Opening Day for the Seniors on Sunday and on behalf of the Club, I would like to express our special thanks to our Patron, Dianne Hale who officiated hitting the first ball over the net (and back and forth several times!) to Open the New Season.

Remember that membership renewal is only $305 for an annual subscription, plus Inter Club fees $70 (or $81 for both singles and doubles), must be paid by 30th September to take advantage of that discount.

Also don’t forget to bring your ‘old’ key so that we can swap for a new one (the Clubhouse and main gate locks have been changed), although access will still be available via the first gate for a little while during the crossover. Don’t leave it too late …

You can pay on line over the Internet into our ASB account, the details of which and membership forms are available under the “Membership” tab above.

Thanks to all those keen members who turned up and enjoyed a wonderful hot afternoon of “Summer’s Tennis” plus a BBQ and cold drinks kindly put on by Allen & Judith.

I believe there was an equally strong Junior turnout on Saturday according to Stephen, which bodes well for the future.

Looking forward to seeing you at any of our Club evenings & Gail & I or Committee members will be available to accept this season’s membership forms and swap keys over.

Peter Restall

President

“It’s been a great three years, and we’ve achieved much, but now’s the time to hand over the baton to a new President in Peter Restall.”

So said out-going President Richard Loseby in his swansong speech at yesterday’s AGM. With family commitments and growing work demands, Richard was happy to step down and let someone new take the lead. Peter was the natural selection, especially after so many years of devoted service on the committee as Club Captain, and he inherits a club that is in a very healthy state. The two new courts continue to attract widespread approval, even though they have yet to be fully played in. Midweek club mornings, Monday and Wednesday nights are as popular as ever and this season we can look forward to another Chelsea Cup team in the top league. With Head Coach Vicky Wild leaving, Peter will also be working with a new coach and Richard’s last role was to help find that person. We can now say we are close to signing someone and an exciting announcement will be made shortly.

Richard also took the opportunity to thank the committee for all their hard work.

If you’ve been down to the club lately you’ll see the resurfacing is now completed, although some repairs are still to be done on Court 5. As for the surface, here’s a brief description of what to expect from the fantastic new Tournament 1000 astroturf.

T1000 is a medium pile, sand filled, tennis surface. It provides a hard wearing, longer lasting surface, designed for clubs and multi sport use in schools that have a high usage on their courts.
Tournament 1000 uses our fibrillated yarn, the increased stitch rate provides a harder wearing surface which give a natural, looking, less sandy finished and provides a court that club members will love playing on.
It is a lot faster than a natural grass surface while still being more forgiving than other harder surfaces – a great combination for young players who are constantly learning. It allows players to slide into shots, meaning they get plenty of action on the ball in competitions, while being lenient of their joints.
It is an ideal surface for older players too as it is kind to their knees and joints.

Tournament 1000 is UV resistant meaning it won’t fade and is free of heavy metals.

To All Junior Families of Ngataringa Tennis Club

You are all invited to our end of season prize-giving and celebration. This will be a fun evening, where some awards and prizes will be presented to be followed by a social evening of eating, drinking and mingling with the junior tennis families from the club. There will be some funny bits too as you may briefly see some things from Vicky & Justin that you haven’t seen before !

The details are:
Date: Saturday 28th May, 6.30pm start
Format: Please bring a plate and/or bottle of juice or pop or wine

We will also be assisted in the prizegiving by a special guest who has gone on from playing junior tennis at Ngataringa to playing Chelsea Cup and national level tennis in New Zealand plus some international junior tournaments.

This evening is not just for the competitive players. It’s a social evening for all our juniors. So, we look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible and having a celebration of the fun everyone has playing tennis at Ngataringa Tennis Club.

Just to let you know that on Monday morning Tiger Turf will be beginning the process of installing new surfaces to Courts 1 & 2. We expect this to take a few weeks but I’m sure the disruption will be worth it when you get to play on the new Tournament 1000 surface. Tiger will be patching the base to ensure an even surface and better drainage. There might also be a need for a root prevention channel but we won’t know until we lift the mat on Monday.

Finally, it’s important to know that while your fees have contributed to the cost of the project (as well as several others) the Committee have successfully attracted funding from ASB Community Trust and North Shore Community Trust to offset this; approximately 40% of the pre-GST total.

Once again, we hope you will not be too inconvenienced while the work is going on. Courts 3, 4 and 5 will be available and of course, Tiger Turf will also do their bit to ensure a minimum of fuss.

This is the third time we’ve participated in what is a nationwide event, designed to get more people playing tennis more often, so it’s all worth it. Last year we had a great few hours and a number of new families and single members join, and the kids who turned up had a ball. Keep the date in mind, let everyone know and maybe we’ll see you down there!
