Tennis Northern 2020-21 Club of the Year

Ngātaringa Tennis Club is the home of tennis in the village of Devonport, on Auckland’s North Shore. A historic club, established in 1927, Ngātaringa nestles in a picturesque corner of Stanley Bay Park, with a playground alongside and a beach across the road. The club has five outdoor courts with synthetic grass, LED lighting for night play, and offers a range of social and competitive play for junior and senior club members.

Visitors and new members at all playing levels are always welcome. Everyone can book a court via our Court Booking online system whether a club member (free) or not (fee).  

Tennis coaching is a major drawcard to this boutique-style club. The TENNIS PLUS programme, set up by internationally-successful coach and player Gilles de Gouy, is based here with the coaching programme actively led by Ngātaringa's Head Coach Philippe Douchet. Philippe and his team of qualified coaches run programmes for all ages and abilities, from pre-schoolers to veterans. Coaching is included in the subscription fee for Junior club members (see ‘Membership’ for details) and other club members get a discounted rate for their tennis coaching.

Weekly social play sessions include Monday Nights hard-hitting tennis for confident players, starting at 7.30pm, Wednesday Mornings social play for men and women from 9.15am, and Wednesday Nights mixed doubles tennis at 7.30pm.

Ngātaringa participates in the Tennis Northern and North Shore Ladies Day Tennis Association Interclub competitions year-round. It also usually fields 14 senior interclub teams (from elite Chelsea Cup  to social grade) and 10 junior teams (including elite and premier). The Club has had great success, with teams winning their grade each year.

Ngātaringa hosts a number of fun social and competitive events throughout the year: Senior Club Champs (Feb-March), Junior Club Champs (April), Matariki or Bastille Day celebration (July),  Love Tennis Open Day (September), Jane Worth Tournament (September), Rallye Against Breast Cancer (October), Christmas at the Club (December), The Open Devonport (December).
